It seems ages since we first heard about a new more affordable CD and Amp from Leema Acoustics. They have just arrived and if first impressions count it has been well worth the wait.
The Stream CD player at £1095 at less than half the price of its big brother "The Antila" but still maintains the same build quality and feel in its new slimmer case. The Pulse Amplifier in matching case and producing 80 watts instead of its bigger brother the Tucana's 150 still feels like every pound of the £1195 price tag is well spent.
Sound quality straight out of the box was surprising too.
We cannot believe how good these new editions to the Leema range sound. Detail is in abundance, great imaging and a fine musical presentation. We will give them a few days to run in (not that they appear to need it) and then really put them to the test. If they get any better they should be unbeatable at the price.
The Clear Audio Emotion turntable has received an upgrade in the form of two new versions of the acrylic chassis. As well as the standard acrylic and blue it is now also available with either a satin red or satin black finish. The red version looks stunning with the reflection of the colour passing through to give the effect of lighting up the feet. After hearing this deck you understand why the Hi Fi press love it so much. It is now on demonstration with the Clear Audio Satisfy dual point design tonearm.
Either as a design statement or just a great sounding turntable that won't break the bank, the Emotion is well worth a listen.
I had been looking for a decent digital to analogue converter that could be used to upgrade older cd players without costing an arm and a leg, but still giving true audiophile performance. There do not seem to be many around any more but at the the Heathrow HI Fi show last September I discovered such a beast made by PS Audio, an American company with over 30 years experience in the world of Hi Fi. As as well as the DAC, they produce a range of Amps, a phono stage and some rather interesting mains power products that I will discuss later.
This little box delivers. It will upsample from 44kHz to 192kHz and bring new life to most older older front end products with a digital output.
Even when connected to a Harman Kardon TU970II DAB radio, the Sound opened out and became sweet and smooth. The icing on the cake was the USB input. In the same way the Supernait improves playback of music stored on you computer, this DAC can can be used as an upgrade to any computer with a USB output. So if you are happy with your existing amps but want to make the most from the music stored on your itunes, this is for you. If you would like a home trial , call or email for further details.
